Off-duty C. Ore. fire captain killed in car crash

LA PINE, Ore. (AP) — An off-duty La Pine Fire District captain has been killed in a car crash on U.S. Highway 97 in central Oregon.

KTVZ-TV in Bend reports that 37-year-old James Palmer died in the collision last Friday.

Oregon State Police said the driver of the other car and a passenger were treated for nonlife-threatening injuries at a Bend hospital.

Palmer had worked for the La Pine fire district since 1999.
