Battle Ground — Heather Johnston, a Firm Foundation Christian School fourth-grade teacher, was the 2nd place winner in the Small Steps for Big Change national teacher environmental awards.

Johnston was nominated by a parent.

The award is given to teachers who are considered “green heroes” due to their impact to improve the environment in the local community.

Johnston received a $1,500 award to present to the environmental cause of her choice in her community. She is giving the funds to the Friends of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.
