EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A shopping development anchored by a Fred Meyer store may replace the 73-year-old Civic Stadium in Eugene.

School Superintendent George Russell recommended the shopping center to the school board Wednesday over a proposal from the YMCA and a community group seeking to preserve the ballpark.

Russell says the development would return the most money to the district.

The Register Guard reports the school board takes a final vote June 1 on the property plans.
