Between Japan’s recent earthquake-tsunami disaster and Wednesday’s anniversary of the Mount St. Helens eruption, emergency preparedness may be on the minds of many residents.

On Tuesday, Clark College will host a “how-to” emergency preparedness fair on how to handle a major earthquake, flood or other natural disaster.

Free and open to the public, the event runs 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Gaiser Student Center on Clark’s main campus, 1933 Fort Vancouver Way.

Students, faculty, staff and others will learn how to make self-sufficiency kits for home, school, work and transportation. Experts will be on hand to show what goes into a kit and how to prepare for disasters.

Participants include the American Red Cross, Clark College Environmental Health and Safety, Clark County Public Health, Humane Society for Southwest Washington, IQ Credit Union, Northwest Health and Safety, Simple Safety and Student Nurses of Clark College.
