Letter: Litter doesn’t wait for next cleanup

The Columbian
Published: May 19, 2011, 12:00am

Well, cleanup day in downtown Vancouver was busy, satisfying, successful, and hard work. Thanks to Vancouver’s Downtown Association, Parks Foundation, Juvenile Justice and many volunteers. Those of us who live downtown are grateful and humbled by the work that was done.

However, the litter doesn’t stop on the day of cleanup — garbage and cigarette butts continue to find their way to the sidewalks, streets, and sewer system, which reaches the fish, frogs and rivers. Let’s pledge to not be the source of the litter and to gently (or not) remind others of the same goal.
