PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — A musical based on the romantic comedy film “Sleepless in Seattle” is set to debut next year far from Seattle or New York.

The Pasadena Playhouse in California said Thursday it will host the premiere of the show beginning June 12, 2012. It will have a book by Jeff Arch, who wrote the film’s original story and co-wrote the screenplay.

The musical will be a retelling of the 1993 film that starred Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan and was directed by Nora Ephron. The stage version will have music and lyrics by Michelle Citrin, Michael Garin and Josh Nelson.

Joel Zwick will direct.

The Playhouse is enjoying much success on Broadway right now, with two productions — “Sister Act” and “Baby It’s You!” — that it helped nurture.
