ROME (AP) — Meet organizers say 800-meter world record holder David Rudisha has withdrawn from Thursday’s Golden Gala with a left foot injury that has been bothering him since the beginning of the month.

The 2010 world athlete of the year from Kenya also missed the opening Diamond League meet in Doha, Qatar, on May 6.

The 800 at the Stadio Olimpico will still feature world champion Mbulaeni Mulaudzi of South Africa and Kenyans Asbel Kiprop, Boaz Laland and David Mutua.

The main attraction at the Diamond League meet will be the 100 meters featuring world record holder Usain Bolt in his season debut against former world-record holder Asafa Powell and European champion Christophe Lemaitre.
