WALLA WALLA, Wash. (AP) — Walla Walla police have arrested an 18-year-old man in a fatal shooting last week of Julio Cesar Martinez.

Spokesman Tim Bennett told KONA that gang detectives took Benito Gomez, a member of a local rival gang, into custody Saturday morning. He was lodged into Walla Walla County Jail on investigation of first-degree murder and first-degree assault. Bennett said the assault charges stem from the other people who were in the area at the time the shots were fired.

Police say 20-year-old Martinez was walking in an alley with a friend last Tuesday night when they were confronted by rival gang members. Martinez was shot twice and died at a hospital.
