After a weekend search, the U.S. Coast Guard has stopped actively looking for a missing fisherman who didn’t return from a fishing trip Friday.

Missing is Jeffrey W. Ferguson, 51, of Cornelius, Ore., who was last seen on the water about noon Friday, according to a news release.

Ferguson’s empty boat was found about 9:52 a.m. Saturday near Coon Island in the Multnomah Strait, near Scappoose, Ore. His wife reported him missing around the time his boat was located.

A helicopter crew returned to Astoria at approximately 1 p.m. and a response boat crew returned to Portland about 2:30 p.m., but the Coast Guard will continue to broadcast a notice seeking information on the man’s whereabouts.

Ferguson was last seen wearing a burgundy or dark-colored sweater, black or blue jeans and hiking boots. He is 5-foot-8-inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds. The boat was described as a 16-foot beige and green fishing vessel.
