LOS ANGELES (AP) — A person with knowledge of the discussions says the Los Angeles Lakers are in serious talks with former Cleveland coach Mike Brown about their coaching vacancy.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on Wednesday on condition of anonymity because the Lakers’ coaching search isn’t complete yet.

Brown is discussing potential contract terms with the Lakers, who have identified him as the top choice to succeed Phil Jackson.

The 11-time NBA champion coach retired earlier this month after the defending two-time champions were ousted from the playoffs.

Brown reached the 2007 NBA finals and won 272 games in five years with the Cavaliers, but was fired shortly before LeBron James left for Miami last summer.

Multiple reports have said Brown is the Lakers’ first choice.
