KETTLE FALLS, Wash. (AP) — The Stevens County sheriff’s office says a young brother and sister were tossed into the fast-moving Kettle River in northeast Washington when their canoe capsized. The boy reached shore but the 14-year-old girl is missing.
The sheriff’s office and several other agencies searched until dark Wednesday for Laura Enquist. They planned to resume their search Thursday.
Officials say 11-year-old Joseph Enquist made it to shore and called for help. They believe he was wearing a life jacket but his sister was not.
Their canoe overturned about five miles north of Kettle Falls.
