MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Twins right-hander Kevin Slowey has a muscle strain in his abdomen that requires at least a week of rest and a likely stint on the disabled list.

Slowey saw a local specialist, Dr. Brad Pierce, on Wednesday morning. He ruled out a sports hernia but recommended seven to 10 days of rest. Manager Ron Gardenhire said the team would probably put Slowey on the DL after the game against Seattle and bring another relief pitcher up from Triple-A.

Slowey has made only six appearances this season. The last came Friday at Arizona. He has a 4.91 ERA in 14 2-3 innings. He’s been bothered by injury problems and partially blamed them on the adjustment from starting to relieving.
