Nearly 700 Washougal area homes lost electricity Thursday morning after a switch failed, officials said.

Customers’ service was restored later in the day.

Clark Public Utilities reported 694 residential customers and one commercial customer were without power in the area east of Washougal beginning around 10 a.m. The outage was caused by a failed switch, said Erica Erland, Clark PUD spokeswoman, noting the maintenance workers planned to replace the switch.
