GERVAIS, Ore. (AP) — A Texas man was killed when he was struck by a semi-trailer truck while he was walking along Highway 99E in a rural farm area south of Portland.

Oregon State Police say the truck driver was unable to avoid 21-year-old Thomas Jay Franklin of Austin, Texas, when he apparently moved into the southbound lane directly in the truck’s path.

The accident occurred about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday between the towns of Gervais and Brooks.

Troopers said the accident was under investigation.
