GREENWATER, Wash. (AP) — A Pierce County, Wash., sheriff’s spokesman says a rescue worker has recovered the body of a 2-year-old boy swept away in the fast-moving Greenwater River.

Spokesman Ed Troyer tells KING-TV the boy was recovered downstream “but unfortunately too late.”

Troyer says the child was on a camping trip with his family on Friday afternoon when he went into the river. The body was recovered Friday evening. The child was not immediately identified.

The spokesman cautions those planning to spend the Memorial Day holiday in the outdoors to stay out of area rivers, which are all running fast and full.
