OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) — A trial has begun for an Oregon City couple charged with criminal mistreatment after their infant daughter suffered a medical problem that went untreated until a court ordered her taken to the doctor.

The Oregonian reports the trial of Timothy and Rebecca Wyland puts the spotlight back on the Followers of Christ Church and its reliance on faith healing.

The couple are members of the Oregon City church that rejects medical care. Their daughter suffered a buildup of abnormal blood vessels over her left eye that threatened her sight, but she has improved under court-ordered medical treatment.

Two other couples who belong to the church have been prosecuted in Clackamas County for failing to seek medical treatment for their children, and one couple served more than a year in prison.
