ABERDEEN, Wash. (AP) — The construction of a Doppler radar station on the Washington coast reached a milestone Friday when a crane lifted a large dome into place on top of the structure near Copalis Beach.
The National Weather Service and other forecasters are looking forward to the radar going into operation this fall. They say it will give them a better look at incoming Pacific storms and improve predictions of damaging winds and rains.
The only other Doppler radar station in Western Washington is on Camano Island and the Olympic mountains block its view of the ocean.
A Doppler radar station also is located in Spokane.
