Tiralongo wins stage 19 of Giro ahead of Contador

MACUGNAGA, Italy (AP) — Paolo Tiralongo of Italy finished ahead of overall leader Alberto Contador to win the 19th stage of the Giro d’Italia on Friday.

The pair finished the 129-mile ride from Bergamo to Macugnaga together in 5 hours, 26 minutes, 27 seconds, after the Italian had led the attack on the final climb to the finish. Vincenzo Nibali was third, three seconds behind.

Contador extended his lead over Michele Scarponi in the overall standings by 20 seconds to 5:18. Contador has an overall time of 77 hours, 11 minutes, 24 seconds.

The 21-stage Giro concludes Sunday with a time trial in Milan.
