LONDON (AP) — Nicolas Colsaerts led 11 players who have earned spots in the U.S. Open in a qualifier that ended at dark — much to the surprise of Richie Ramsay.

Ramsay didn’t think his score of 4-under 140 at Walton Heath would be enough to qualify Monday, so he tried to catch a flight to Belfast to attend a wedding reception. He missed his flight, then was told to rush back to the golf course for a playoff among three players competing for the final spot. Ramsay arrived just as Johan Edfors got the last spot over Andreas Harto.

Others who qualified include Shane Lowry and Thomas Levet, while among those who failed to make it were Colin Montgomerie and Ross Fisher, the only member of the last Ryder Cup team not in the U.S. Open.

The U.S. Open is June 16-19 at Congressional.
