CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Carolina Panthers players are doing their best to make sure no one sees their first organized workout since the lockout began.

Players hired a police officer to shoo away reporters from the high school where they were working out Tuesday morning. Cones blocked another entrance to the field at Charlotte Christian.

A few dozen high-priced vehicles were seen in the parking lot, but the field was out of view from the road. No. 1 overall pick Cam Newton was expected to participate in at least some of the workouts, which are scheduled through June 9.

The Panthers are behind fellow NFC South rivals New Orleans, Atlanta and Tampa Bay, who have already gathered for workouts on their own while the owners bar players from team facilities.
