ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) — The local movement inspired by Occupy Wall Street has wound down in Ashland.
The Ashland Daily Tidings (http://bit.ly/sYW5LN ) reports occupiers managed to maintain a 24-hour presence in The Plaza in downtown Ashland for 22 straight days, but voted over the weekend to cut back until they build stronger support within the community.
One of the organizers, recent Southern Oregon University graduate Emery Way, says future occupations will be limited to daytime on the weekends while they organize around action on local issues.
As for Way, he is traveling to the University of Maryland for a conference on hunger and homelessness and then plans to go to New York to join Occupy Wall Street for a few days.
