BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Two weeks ago, running back Chris Ogbonnaya was on Houston’s practice squad, waiting for a chance to play. On Sunday, he’ll face the Texans.
Such is life in the unpredictable NFL.
Ogbonnaya will play — and could start — this week for the Browns, whose offensive backfield has undergone nearly constant change because of injuries. With both Peyton Hillis and Montario Hardesty hurt in recent weeks, Ogbonnaya, signed by Cleveland on Oct. 18, has zoomed up the depth chart.
Last week, Ogbonnaya was pressed into full-time duty when Hardesty, starting in place of Hillis, tore a calf muscle. Ogbonnaya wound up playing nearly every snap in a loss at San Francisco. He’s ready to do it again, but the Browns got good news Thursday, when Hillis practiced for the first time in more than a week and said he intends to play Sunday for the first time in three weeks.
