EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — A man accused of stabbing three of his lawyers with writing tools has been convicted of drug possession after a trial in which he represented himself.

The Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/s3Xv6V ) that 28-year-old Joshua Monson was confined in a restraint chair and circled by Snohomish County corrections officers for Thursday’s verdict. Superior Court Judge David Kurtz ruled earlier this week that Monson had forfeited his right to legal counsel by his behavior. He’s accused of stabbing three lawyers in succession in the neck and head with pencils and a pen. They were not seriously hurt.

The latest instance happened Tuesday as jurors listened to opening statements in his drug trial. State doctors have concluded that Monson is competent to stand trial. He told jurors he’d been framed.

He still faces a second-degree murder charge in a fatal Jan. 2 shooting.
