Everybody knows that washing hands with soap and hot water is the No. 1 way to prevent the spread of illness and infection. But what if you can’t afford soap or basic toiletries?

AAA, the American Automobile Association, is holding its fourth annual Soap for Hope campaign. It accepts donations of unused and unopened toiletry items and distributes them to homeless shelters, food banks and other charitable organizations serving people in need.

Donations made to the AAA Vancouver office at 4301 E. Fourth Plain Blvd. now through the end of the year will benefit the YWCA Clark County’s SafeChoice domestic violence shelter.

New, full- and sample-size toiletry items, such as soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothpaste and deodorant will be accepted at all AAA locations, 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
