ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. (AP) — Brandt Snedeker will be out of golf the rest of the year as he recovers from hip surgery.

Snedeker, who won The Heritage in April and nearly earned a spot on the U.S. Presidents Cup team, had surgery Tuesday afternoon to fix a degenerative issue in his right hip. He is not expected to compete again for six to eight weeks.

That affects two players who will replace him in tournaments Snedeker had planned to play.

Rickie Fowler will take Snedeker’s spot in the Chevron World Challenge, played Dec. 1-4 at Sherwood Country Club in California. Snedeker will be replaced by Bo Van Pelt a week later at the Shark Shootout in Florida.
