SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego Chargers backup running back Curtis Brinkley has returned to practice, his first session since sustaining a concussion Monday night at Kansas City.

That means San Diego has a back to spell starter Mike Tolbert when the struggling Chargers host the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Ryan Mathews did not practice Friday and missed the entire week with a groin strain. He is listed as questionable on the team’s injury report, but his odds of playing are small.

Brinkley passed the NFL’s official concussion test on Thursday and was cleared to practice and play. He is listed as probable and will play.
