SEATTLE (AP) — University and college instructors are leading free classes and lectures at Occupy Wall Street protests in different cities.
In Seattle, the teachers union for community colleges organized an overnight set of lectures when Occupy Seattle moved into the campus of Seattle Central Community College.
Instructor Karen Strickland says the teachers wanted to show support through lessons. The teachers were also worried about clashes between police and the occupiers. Strickland says lessons included how to photograph human rights abuses, the history of labor movements and writing a “position statement.”
“Teach-ins” as the classes are called have also been held in San Diego and Albuquerque, N.M.
In San Diego, a lecture was interrupted by police when officers put up barricades.
