BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon state senator holds a commanding lead in both money and polls in Oregon’s only Congressional race, but her chief challenger says he’s undeterred.

Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian won 11 percent support in a poll of likely voters conducted for The Oregonian and KGW-TV late last month. That’s far behind the 45 percent support for state Sen. Suzanne Bonamici.

They are fighting for the chance to replace former Rep. David Wu in Congress, who resigned in August amid allegations he made an unwanted sexual advance.

The two Democrats, along with Republican Rob Cornilles, planned to spend much of the weekend calling voters or meeting them at their doorways and downtowns.

Bonamici has spent $433,000, about 10 percent more than Avakian, according to the latest Federal Election Commission records.
