HUMPTULIPS, Wash. (AP) — An Aberdeen man accused of attacking a Humptulips couple with a crossbow and hatchet reportedly told another person later he had “killed the demons.”

The Daily World reports the Grays Harbor County prosecutor’s office filed papers accusing 31-year-old John F. Chase of second-degree murder in the death of Ralph Aldrich. The 80-year-old was found dead Saturday morning outside his home with a chest wound. His wife June was found inside with head injuries. She’s reported in critical condition Monday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Court records say investigators recovered a crossbow and a hatchet they believe were used in the attack.

Court records say Chase showed up at a Hoquiam home Friday night with blood on his clothes and said he had “killed the demons.”
