LINDEN, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes has raised more than $25,000 for sickle cell anemia research with a charity bowling event attended by dozens of teammates, including Mark Sanchez and coach Rex Ryan.
Holmes, whose son Santonio III suffers from sickle cell anemia, organized the event Monday night at Jersey Lanes bowling alley through his III & Long Foundation, which has raised more than $100,000 toward the cause in three years. Holmes, along with several teammates, signed autographs, poised for pictures and bowled several frames with fans — most wearing Jets jerseys.
Ryan and general manager Mike Tannenbaum didn’t bowl, but mingled with fans. Guard Brandon Moore, who was critical of comments by Holmes a few weeks ago, was also among the Jets players to attend.
