ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan’s president has promised to work with the United States to “eradicate” the militant Haqqani network.
President Asif Ali Zardari made the pledge during a conversation with visiting American lawmakers to Pakistan.
Homeland Security delegation head Michael McCaul revealed the details of the discussion late Tuesday.
McCaul says he welcomed Zardari’s remarks but that “the questions is how much control does he have over the military” and Pakistan’s spy agencies, which are in charge of Afghan policy.
