Diggs leads Akron to 68-58 win at Mississippi St

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Quincy Diggs scored 19 points to lead Akron to a 68-58 victory over Mississippi State on Wednesday night.

Akron (1-0) shot 48.4 percent (30 of 62) from the field and confused the Bulldogs on defense all night. The Zips forced 19 turnovers, had six steals and blocked eight shots.

Mississippi State (1-1) led early, but Akron finished the first half on an 18-8 run and led 37-29 at the break. MSU never led in the second half.

The Bulldogs shot 34.5 percent from the field (19 of 55) and were 2 of 13 from 3-point range.

Zeke Marshall controlled the paint for Akron, finishing with five blocks and 10 points before fouling out.

Dee Bost paced Mississippi State with 13 points, and Renardo Sidney added 12 points and five rebounds. Freshman Rodney Hood scored 10.
