COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo. (AP) — U.S. skier Steven Nyman tore his left Achilles tendon in training and will miss the 2011-12 season.
A two-time Olympian, Nyman was injured in a crash Tuesday at Copper Mountain, but not on the U.S. Ski Team’s newly designed Speed Center course that officially opens early next week.
Soon after discovering the extent of the injury, the 29-year-old Nyman tweeted: “Blown Achilles tendon (equals) no ski season for me this year. Time to mend, I will be back.”
Nyman, of Sundance, Utah, has a win on the World Cup circuit, taking the downhill race in Val Gardena, Italy, in 2006. He also has two podium finishes at the Birds of Prey downhill in Beaver Creek, Colo., which will host races Dec. 2-4.
