OSLO, Norway (AP) — Organizers says they are moving next weekend’s cross-country World Cup opener in Norway from Beitostoelen to Sjusjoen because of snow shortage amid unusually warm weather.

The International Ski Federation says there will be no rescheduling of the dates, and the opener will run as planned Nov. 19-20.

FIS race director Jurg Capol says that colder temperatures are forecast for the next few days and that Sjusjoen, near Lillehammer in southeastern Norway, is therefore better equipped to produce enough snow.

He says organizers “found a good solution to execute the races despite of the mild weather.”

Norwegian Ski Federation official Terje Lund says the move was the only alternative for Norway to be able to host the opening event.
