WILSONVILLE, Ore. (AP) — Federal investigators say a preliminary report on a midair plane collision west of Wilsonville that killed one pilot doesn’t determine the cause.
The Oregonian (http://bit.ly/vnpbFN ) quotes officials as saying a final report will take six months to a year.
According to the preliminary report on the Oct. 25 crash, flight instructor Travis Thompson saw a second plane above and behind the craft he and a student were in.
When he felt a jolt and violent shudder, the report says, Thompson thought the plane might have hit geese, and he took control of it for an emergency landing in a field.
The pilot of the other plane died. He was Stephen Watson, a retired Oregon State Police sergeant.
