MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Michael Phelps has glided through preliminaries in the 200-meter freestyle and 100 butterfly at the Minneapolis Grand Prix.

Phelps swam the 200 free in 1 minute, 50.35 seconds. He finished the 100 butterfly in 53.88 seconds. The 14-time Olympic gold medal winner is the world record-holder in the 100 butterfly.

Ryan Lochte also advanced to the finals, held later Friday at the University of Minnesota.

Lochte swam the 200 free in 1:51.37. He finished the 100 butterfly in 54.85 seconds. The three-time Olympic gold medal winner says he’s not expecting “anything special” from this event but just wants to get back in the groove.

This is the first of seven stops this season on USA Swimming’s Grand Prix series.
