Wilcox, Washington thump Georgia State 91-74

SEATTLE (AP) — C.J. Wilcox scored 22 points to lead Washington to a season-opening 91-74 victory over Georgia State on Saturday in the World Vision Classic.

Rashaad Richardson led Georgia State with 21 points. Darnell Gant added 18.

Wilcox, a redshirt sophomore, opened the second half with two 3-pointers in the first three Washington possessions. His second swelled the lead to 54-36.

After spending last season as a 3-point specialist, Wilcox contributed six rebounds in addition to making five 3-pointers. He finished 8-for-12 from the field and 5-for-8 from behind the 3-point line.

Washington took control in the second half after leading by 10 at halftime. The lead rose to 61-41 when Aziz N’Diaye scored in the post with a left-handed hook off the glass. Wilcox’s lay-in increased the lead to 70-44.

Freshman guard Tony Wroten finished with 18 points, seven assists and three rebounds.
