Williams leads UALR past Northwestern State 72-66

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — D’Andre Williams scored 13 points, including five in a late 9-2 run that helped Arkansas-Little Rock defeat Northwestern State 72-66 on Sunday.

Williams converted a three-point play, then added a layup during a run that gave the Trojans (1-1) a 68-58 lead with 2:21 remaining. Northwestern State (1-1) twice cut the lead to three points in the final minutes but missed two shots and turned the ball over in the final 30 seconds.

Chuck Guy added 10 points, and Eric Lawton had nine for the Trojans. UALR, which shot 28 percent from the field in a season-opening loss to Tulsa, hit 49 percent of its shots against the Demons.

Gary Roberson led Northwestern State with 14 points. Shamir Davis added 11 and Louis Ellis had 10.
