BALTIMORE, Md. (AP) — Isaiah Canaan scored 23 points to help Murray State get off to a fast start and beat Morgan State 80-69 on Monday night.
Canaan, who shot 58.3 percent from the field (7 of 12), scored 15 points during the opening 7 minutes of the game. His 3-pointer with 12:47 left in the first half sparked a 22-12 run that gave Murray State a 33-22 lead with 6:44 left. Ivan Aska hit two free throws and Jewuan Long made a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send Murray State into halftime with a 45-32 lead.
Aska finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Jewuan Long scored 14 points, shooting 2 of 3 from the field, 2 of 2 from 3-point range and 8 of 8 from the free-throw line.
DeWayne Jackson led Morgan State with 19 points but the Bears struggled from the free-throw line, only making 15 of 28 attempts.
