COMPTON, Calif. (AP) — Matt Kemp says he wants to remain with the Los Angeles Dodgers but no deal has been reached amid reports that he’s close to signing an eight-year, $160 million contract.
Kemp said Monday he has not reached an agreement with the Dodgers but would like to spend the rest of his career with the team. Both ESPN and the Los Angeles Times reported the 27-year-old center fielder was on the verge of signing a long-term deal that would be the largest in Dodgers history.
Kemp made a run at the elusive Triple Crown this season, leading the National League in home runs with 39 and RBIs with 126. He finished third in batting average at .324.
Kemp is eligible for free agency after the 2012 season.
