IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Melsahn Basabe had 15 points and 10 rebounds as Iowa defeated North Carolina A&T 95-79 Monday night.

Matt Gatens led Iowa (2-0) with 27 points and Eric May contributed 20 points and nine rebounds for the Hawkeyes (2-0).

Iowa scored the first 10 points of the second half, with the sophomore Basabe scoring six. A jumper from the Aggies’ A.J. Buck ended the streak after nearly four minutes.

A brief North Carolina A&T scoring run cut Iowa’s lead from 25 to 14. Marc Hill and Nic Simpson connected after Hill’s steal for an open 3-pointer. Anthony Estes hit a layup on the next possession and Buck’s tip-in brought the Aggies as close as they would come in the second half.

Hill had 20 points to lead North Carolina A&T (0-2). The Aggies had 10 steals.
