Youngstown State defeats Notre Dame (Ohio) 80-62

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — Ashen Ward made five of Youngstown State’s school-record-tying 14 3-pointers and the Penguins routed Notre Dame (Ohio) 80-62 Tuesday night.

Youngstown State (2-0) started its hot shooting early, making 11 first-half 3-pointers, including the Penguins’ first seven attempts as part of a 10-for-14 shooting performance in the game’s first few minutes.

Youngstown State was 12 of 18 from long range in the first half (66.7 percent), including a 3-for-3 effort by Kendrick Perry.

Perry finished with 18 points, while Blake Allen had 14 while going 4 of 9 from beyond the arc. Damian Eargle chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds for the Penguins.

Eric Dummermuth led Division II Notre Dame (1-0) with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

The Penguins finished 14 of 29 from 3-point range (48.3 percent), and shot 39.7 percent from the field (27 of 68). Youngstown State last made 14 3-pointers a season ago against Butler.
