OXFORD, Ohio (AP) — Alex Carder threw for 429 yards and three touchdowns to lead Western Michigan to a 24-21 win over Miami (Ohio) on Wednesday night.

Carder prevailed in a quarterback duel with the RedHawks’ Zac Dysert, who completed 42 of 54 passes for 413 yards, eclipsing Ben Roethlisberger’s record of 40 against Hawaii in 2001.

The Broncos (6-5, 4-3 Mid-American Conference), coming off a 66-63 loss to Toledo, trailed 14-10 at the half.

Carder, who was 36 of 57 with one interception, threw his second TD pass to Jordan White, this one a 6-yarder, with 12:27 left in the third quarter. He then tossed a 2-yard score to Robert Arnheim with 14:50 remaining.

Dysert also threw for three touchdowns, all to Nick Harwell, who had 14 catches for 138 yards for Miami (4-7, 3-4).

After Dysert threw a 24-yard TD to Harwell with 3 minutes left, Western Michigan ran out the clock.
