NEWARK, Del. (AP) — Elena Delle Donne had 40 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks to help Delaware rally to an 80-71 victory over No. 11 Penn State on Thursday night.

The Lions (2-1) were the highest-ranked team that the Blue Hens (2-0) have ever beaten. It was also just the third victory ever over a top 25 team for Delaware, which had been receiving votes in the AP top 25.

For Delle Donne, a 6-foot-5 junior, her 40 points were the third highest total in program history as well as in her career. The total also set a single-game women’s record for the Carpenter Center.

Alex Bentley scored 20 points to lead Penn State.

Before Thursday, the previous highest ranked team Delaware beat was No. 20 Kentucky in 2006.
