SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Salem spent nearly $15,000 on police overtime last weekend sending officers to Portland to help evict Occupy Portland demonstrators from downtown parks.

Lt. Dave Okada told the Statesman Journal (http://stjr.nl/sAVTGp) 22 people went to Portland. Salem officers were on front lines for three hours and then on standby for three more hours.

Okada says the safety of the city of Salem was not compromised.

He says the cooperation is part of a mutual aid agreement that assists Salem as well.
