Culpo leads Long Island past Radford 81-59

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — Michael Culpo scored 14 points and Julian Boyd scored all 10 of his in the first half as Long Island University won its first game this season, defeating Radford 81-59 Saturday night at the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic.

The Blackbirds (1-3) shot 57.7 percent (15 of 26) in the first half, which they closed with an 8-0 run for a 35-23 lead.

They improved to 61.5 percent (16 of 26) in the second half. A 3-pointer by Brandon Thompson increased Long Island’s lead to 59-37 with 11:24 remaining, and it never led by less than 20 the rest of the way.

Culpo got 12 of his points by making 4 of 5 3-pointers. Boyd also added 10 rebounds. Jamal Olasewere added 12 points for the Blackbirds, and C.J. Garner and Kenny Onyechi scored 11 each.

Jareal Smith scored 10 points, the only Highlanders (3-2) player in double figures.
