DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Chris Johnson scored 19 points and Kevin Dillard added 18 as Dayton topped UNC-Wilmington 74-49 on Saturday.
Dayton (2-1) opened the game with a 21-6 run through the first 10 minutes of the half. The Flyers shot 40 percent in the first half (14-35), while holding UNC-Wilmington to just 27.6 percent before halftime (8 of 29). Dayton led the Seahawks 39-18 heading into the half.
Dayton’s offense never relented, stretching its lead to 30, 56-36, off a 3-pointer from Johnson with 11:19 left to play in the second half. The Flyers finished the game at 40.9 percent (27 of 66) from the field and held the Seahawks to 34.5 percent (20 of 58).
UNC-Wilmington (0-2) was paced by Keith Rendleman with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Adam Smith also scored in double figures, adding 10 points for the Seahawks.
The Flyers forced 20 turnovers in the win.
