Gustavsson stars in Maple Leafs’ 7-1 win over Caps

TORONTO (AP) — Jonas Gustavsson made a career-high 40 saves, and Joffrey Lupul had a goal and three assists in the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 7-1 victory over the reeling Washington Capitals on Saturday night.

Phil Kessel added a goal and an assist. He leads the NHL with 14 goals and 27 points.

Matt Frattin scored his first NHL goal, Cody Franson chipped in his first as member of the Maple Leafs, and Tim Connolly, Tyler Bozak and David Steckel also scored. Toronto improved to 11-7-2, winning for the first time in its last five games at Air Canada Centre.

Brooks Laich scored for Washington, 1-5-1 in its last seven and 10-7-1 overall.
