Hofstra hangs on to defeat St. Francis (NY) 63-59

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) — Mike Moore posted game highs in points and rebounds as Hofstra edged St. Francis (N.Y.) 63-59 Saturday.

Moore scored 23 points on 7-for-16 shooting from the floor, grabbed 10 rebounds and was 8 of 12 from the free-throw line. The Pride (2-1) made 23 of 36 from the foul line to just 10 of 13 for St. Francis (0-3) but still couldn’t shake the Terriers.

St. Francis outscored Hofstra 21-6 from the 3-point line. The Terriers were 5 of 15 from the arc in the first half and trailed 32-30 at halftime. But after intermission, St. Francis made just 2 of 10 3-pointers.

The game was tied nine times, with 12 lead changes. Hofstra’s largest lead was six points, St. Francis’ 4. Neither team scored a basket in the last two minutes.

Nathaniel Lester added 13 points for Hofstra. Travis Nichols led St. Francis with 12 points.
