AMHREST, Mass. (AP) — Dae’Quan Scott set the James Madison single-game rushing record as the Dukes defeated Massachusetts 34-17 on Saturday in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Scott rushed for 251 yards and two touchdowns, scoring on runs of 76 and 18 yards. The last time UMass allowed a player to rush for at least 200 yards was against the Dukes in 2008.

James Madison piled up 386 yards rushing, with Jordan Anderson contributing 88 yards and a touchdown.

The Dukes (7-4, 5-3 Colonial Athletic Association) led 24-3 at halftime and the margin was at least 14 points the rest of the way.

Kellen Pagel passed for 236 yards and a touchdown for UMass (5-6), which played its final game in the Football Championship Subdivision. Pagel was intercepted twice and sacked twice.

The Minutemen move up to the Football Bowl Subdivision and will play in the Mid-American Conference next season.
